I've been speaking to a friend today about whether or not I should change the name of my 'brand' and we agreed that 'One Thousand Words' would still make sense for the lyrics idea, I just need to change how the title looks, because a photograph of buttercups doesn't match the lyrics idea.
Tonight/tomorrow
Start putting together my presentation for Tuesdays pitch - including the photography idea, and the lyrics idea, as we will discuss with our class/tutors which would be best to do
Put together some more t-shirts
Decide which website to use to get my t-shirts printed, and how many I need printing.
I have research about her work in my sketchbook and realised how much she inspires me, as I want to create a simplistic designs that are eyecatching.
I love how her work is instantly recognisable, as she always uses the same fonts/colour schemes, which I think will be something I will do for my FMP. I think I already have the colour scheme as I have used blue and white on this blog, my website design and my t-shirt design. I also like to use ARIAL BLACK for when I write in capitals, or Courier New for other designs.
Sticking with the lyrics idea, and how I like my work to be simplistic, I have been messing around on Photoshop for ages, and came up with this simplistic design. I decided to use lyrics from artists who we have filmed, to link back to other work that I have done.
This one is from The Only One I Know - The Charlatans
Some notes I've been making about my two ideas. I'm now swaying towards the 'lyric a day' idea, I can choose popular song lyrics to create t-shirts, I think that this idea would be better as it shows my design skills. It is also something that people can relate to as well as being something for both males and females to wear. I think I will try and create a few designs tonight/tomorrow to use in my pitch.
I've been thinking about what was said in my tutorial, I've wanted to take pictures of flowers to create my t-shirts and I wanted a reason behind it, one of my tutors suggested looking at the meanings of flowers and so I need to find out which types of flowers I could get hold of to take photos of, it's a shame that there's not lots of flowers out at the moment. I might have to buy some instead.
I still need to think of another idea, though.
Ideas running through my mind are
Illustrations
Typography - lyrics? quotes?
I've been thinking about the idea of typography as slogan t-shirts are always quite popular. I don't know if I'm allowed to use lyrics/quotes from films though. I'm not going to be making money out of them, so I think it might be allowed.
On the way up to the top of the hill there are tons of locations that have amazing views.. I think I could get a lot of shots on a walk up here, I definitely need a sunny day though.

This is where I am thinking of shooting part/all of my video, it's a field at the back of my old high school, 10mins from my house, I need nice weather though.
I had a chat with one of my tutors about my work and he showed me another artists work, after seeing other work focusing on symbolism and silhouettes, I created new pieces.
I also created a video that would be played repeatedly, I created it after going to a Nam June Paik exhibition at Tate London
I had a tutorial with my tutors today, discussing my recent project for 'Hope, Fear, Desire' (I will post my work for that next). I feel a lot more confident with my work now as I know that I'm working at a distinction level, which is what I am always aiming for. I've created a bit of a mock-up website design, I'm not overly sure if I'll stick with my whole concept, but I definitely want to create t-shirts, a website and advertisements. I need to decide what it is that I want to design for the t-shirts, I need something with a meaning.
My mock-up design is of the home page, it shows that I want a simple website.
Tees - will link to the tees that I have designed, most likely from a photo shoot on models, when I have had the tees printed, thumbnails with click to view larger option
About - what the website is about, my concept and why I've made it
Contact - my email address and any other contact details
Blog - will link to this blog
Advertisements - link to my print-based adverts, thumbnails of them that can be clicked to be viewed larger
On the home page
Video - my video advert
Model in tee - either just one photo or a slideshow of photos
Today I've been looking through clothing websites and came across a brand called New Love Club that sell t-shirts with photographs printed on them, I also remembered a t-shirt I own, by Exposure for Topshop. This has inspired me to go ahead with the idea of having photographs printed onto t-shirts. I also found a website that prints t-shirts, and I found a style that I really like
I also started to plan out how I would like my website, that I would show my work on, to look. I also came up with a name for my 'brand'/project that I think I will probably stick with, 'One Thousand Words' which obviously comes from the phrase 'A picture is worth a thousand words'. I think that this works well with my concept as I will only be printing pictures. Above, is how I think I would want the home page to look like, and the second picture is how the mens/womens pages would look, with photographs of the t-shirts in the boxes.
To do list for tonight -
Take website design and make it in photoshop
Come up with a possible logo
Use photography lesson photos to create mock-ups of t-shirts
I also need to think of other possible ideas as we have to pitch at least two ideas next week.
Thought I'd put some work on here that I was a part of making.
The sessions are made in our three camera HDTV studio at college.
For each session I was a camera operator. This included getting the shots the director wanted and keeping them by locking my camera, I had to be quick to unlock the camera and move it fast and smoothly whenever I was told to, as well as being able to go back to my main shot without a problem. I enjoy doing the sessions as I feel completely confident on the cameras, I know how to do everything I'm expected to.
I think this is a great concept for a clothing advert.. I don't think I'd be going down the same sort of route.. But it's nice to see something different for a change.
I've just been looking through my photographs, although I really like them, I think I might re-take photographs for my FMP as it's now spring, and they were taken in winter..
These are just a couple of my photographs, I don't think berries would be appropriate for spring, I think I need to find some flowers.
I love this video, I love how everything looks so impressive, slow motion is definitely something I want to experiment with, and possibly use in my video/advert.
I also want the camera he used, but I can't find it anywhere.. And it's probably very expensive :(
Today I've been watching a ton of videos on Vimeo, I'll post some soon. This is my main idea, the things I want to create. I wanted to find a way to combine everything that I would be doing at university, which are the same things I enjoy creating/want to create. I also want to exhibit my work in an interesting way, rather than simply having my work printed large and stuck onto a wall. I think that having a website would be a great way to show my work, as well as having it revolve around t-shirts, rather than around a range of printed graphic design images.
I think that my idea came from simply looking through clothing websites, and seeing that photographs printed onto t-shirts seem to be sought after item. I realised that I could create t-shirts that are similar, with my own photography, I began thinking of ways to exhibit my work, which is when I came up with the idea of creating my own website, just a simplistic website, that would be used to sell my t-shirts. My website wouldn't run live, as it costs too much money, but would run locally. I would also be able to create print-based and video adverts that could be viewed on the website, as well as having the print-based images printed large.
I think that my idea is do-able in the time that we have allocated. Or at least, I hope so.
I'm currently trying to inspire myself by searching the internet for other peoples projects. At the moment, I'm watching videos that universities have uploaded, that include their students talking about their work.
